Dear Shufflers,
Word
has been received that Ray Comer passed away peacefully
at 5 AM Sunday morning Oct first at his home in Livermore,
Ca. after a 22 month battle against a very aggressive
brain cancer. Ray had a large tumor removed from his
head in Dec of 2004. This is shortly after he played
on an add to 9 team in Reno with me, Joyce Davis and
Dave Hanson. We ended up in 4th place and Ray played
as good as ever!
Ray and Sandy were the owners of OLD TOWN SALOON in
Livermore, CA for over 12 years . The bar was sold
in May of last year due to Ray's health problems.
During the time Ray and Sandy owned the bar they started
and supported shuffleboard league play with two other
bars in town and sponsored many shuffleboard tournaments,
drawing players from the Sacramento and southern CA
areas as well as Oregon.
I believe they held the first ( or second ) Wandering
Women of the World tournament in early 2000.
The bar was always a fun place to go and Ray and Sandy
always made you feel welcome and fed you too !
Please pass this sad message on to the shuffleboard
community.
Thank you, warm regards,
Chris Wayt
