SPOKANE, Wash. - Californian Nick Chaffin, a
member of the Golden State Hall of Fame came through the loser's
bracket to down Dan Hitt in the Open Singles of the 24th Annual
Memorial Day weekend tournament this year held at the Season Ticket
and sponsored in
conjunction
with Bangham, Lagg and Wynn.
The singles victory marked a sweep of the two tournament's two
major events by Chaffin. He and partner, Bob Crum also won the
Open Doubles title, again double-dipping the husband-wife team
of Clark and Clara Kinney who continue their torrid return from
retirement a little more than a year ago. Crum also administered
a double-dip in the B Singles tourna¬ment after losing the
winners' bracket final. Crum is from Califor¬nia and Mako
is presidents of the Washington state Hall of Fame. Chaffin and
Shelton's Paulette McKinney took the A/B Draw Partner event over
Bill Walker, Port Orchard and Nels Anderson, Shelton.
On Saturday afternoon tournament participants celebrated Bob Miller
of Spokane, Washington being inducted into the NW Shuffle¬board
Hall of Fame. Bob Miller has been playing shuffleboard, mentoring
players from the Spokane area and leagues, and sup¬porting
the game and promoting new players for 55 years. He was honored
to be inducted and looked so proud, as did his friends and family
who showed up in scores to celebrate this deserving honor with
Bob.
Tournament winners received unique trophies designed by Hitt,
Melody Marine and John Rostollan and constructed by Larry Enloe,
of Diamond DC Collectibles. The trophies resemble the original
