| SHELTON,
Wash. — Jim Tribble and Don “Mitch” Mitchell
were crowned champions of the 26th annual Masters Tournament
at the Fir Cone Tavern on Sunday. Mitchell, a previous champion,
and Tribble downed 17 other teams to get their names engraved
on the huge trophy that goes with prize and auction money. Mitchell
and Tribble, both of Olympia, downed Gary George, Tacoma, and
Jeff Kersting, Shelton, in the championship match.
George-Kersting were
trying for a Hood Canal sweep after winning the Whistling Oyster
Grand Masters in August. Darroll Nelson, of Cheshire, Ore.,
and Al Pease, Tacoma, finished third.
Loren Lampley, Shelton, made a successful return to tournament
competition after more than two years away, teaming with another
Shelton player, Nels Anderson, to finish fourth
Tying for fifth and
sixth were Bob Hurst, Shelton, and Gordie Smith, Vancouver,
BC, Mike Keevil, Tacoma, and Kenny Simmons, Longview. Fir Cone
owner Mel Hohn teamed with Canada’s Patty Preymak to win
the Friday draw partner event. |
