And they’re off!! The Greater Detroit Open has kicked off
it’s 3rd year and has done so with a bang. A record 48 players
showed up for the Ladies ‘R’ Captains Draft Team Event
marking the first time an event has ever sold out. Last week, we
announced that we would have to limit the event to 48 players, and
we reached that number about a half hour prior to the start of the
event.
Twelve
ladies then went to the draft room to select their teams. Some had
an easy time choosing, and some had to make hard decisions. At the
end of the draft, everyone was excited about who they had drafted
and were ready for action. Steve Auten hosted the sponsor sale and
the consensus was that he did a heck of a job selling the teams.
The first team went for $1000 and it took off from there. After
the dust settled from the bidding and selling there was $9,800 up
for grabs in the sponsor sale. It took almost 30 minutes for the
players to settle up with the sponsors and the ATM was in high demand.
The action started
at about 8:15pm which was about the time we had expected. All matches
except one went to a third game rubber match in the 2 out of 3 format.
At the close of the day, there are currently 8 teams left standing.
A full listing of the teams, sponsor sale, and results will be posted
after the completion of the event which will probably be at 1pm
Saturday afternoon. Stay tuned for more updates from the 3rd Annual
Greater Detroit Open.
