Since 2004 Journey's End Bar & Grill in Bourbon has hosted an Amateur tournament in the Spring and another in the fall. Everyone seems to enjoy this one day, 2 event schedule. We have historically had players from Indiana, Michigan and Ohio but would love to have other states pay us a visit.
Thank You's
Thanks go out to Gary Neff for running both bracket boards, Jody Berry for taking care of the envelopes (a record amount) and Brian Collins for doing the sponsor sale. Thanks also to our players from Michigan and Ohio. They help make it a great, entertaining and competitive event. Also, thanks to Eddie Brayman's Computer Peas, one person was able to run the registration desk.
Friday Draw Partner
Friday's $10, single elimination draw was won by Roger Wilhelm from Ohio and local Wally Dan (aka Harvey Altman). A second, $5 draw was held afterwards and that was won by Rocky Rider and Tony Skinner.
Doubles
If you look at the ratings for both events you may notice a lot of "3.00". These are unrated players given a temporary rating so Computer Peas could add them up. Unrated players Bud Shelton and Carla Kerrigan (soon to be Mr. & Mrs. Shelton) from Summitville, IN won the winners bracket. They both played well but were defeated twice by Tony Skinner and Gene Darnell (unrated), also from Summitvllle to finish 2nd. Tony and Gene placed 1st. Finishing 3rd were Roger Wilhelm from Ohio and Jon Mauk from Warsaw, IN. Fourth were Gene Brown and Nick George also from the Summitville area.
Singles
Wayne Atkinson from Michigan and Gene Brown from Summitville split the honors to place 5th/6th. Mike Grimes from North Webster, IN placed 4th and Byron George (Nick's father) placed 3rd. James Sanchez of Michigan took the scenic route to the finals. He lost his first game of the day but fought back to play in the finals. Joyce Roberts defeated all comers to win the winners bracket. Joyce has been playing great and defeated James in the first game of the finals to place 1st. Congratulations to Joyce!
Upcoming Events
The next event at Journey's End will be the August 23rd, 2008 Shuffleboard Player Appreciation Day. This will be two events played on the same day, a Pro/Am and Mixed Doubles. This is also the Indiana scheduling meeting for 2008-2009. The date for the Fall Amateur is yet to be determined.
