The Huntington Beach Moose Lodge
#1832 Tournament of Champions (held April 1, 2, and 3) was a big
success.
There were 22 players
vying for $1,400. The prize money consisted of a $10 entry fee
and $1 per player being held back from the Wednesday and Saturday
tournaments. The requirements to qualify for this tournament are
to win a Wednesday or Saturday tournament. There were 39 players
that qualified. The tournament format was A/B blind draw 15 point
game -2 out of 3 winners and losers bracket.
The Moose Lodge has lost their lease and is now in temporary quarters
(with one board) at “Old World” in Huntington Beach.
The tournament was held at CC’s in Anaheim on the two house
boards. The tournament started with two rounds being played Friday
night and the last match played Sunday afternoon.
As usual, Marie Coulter and Kathleen Wisdom (sisters) have done
a fine job of running this tournament for almost twenty years.
In charge of the brackets was Bob Brunskill. The 2005 Bowers Ratings
were used. Many thanks also go to the bartenders and servers for
an outstanding job. The change of venue required the Saturday
buffet being prepared by the kitchen at CC’s. Anna Brunskill
organized the food procurement which resulted in an abundance
of food including a birthday cake for Theresa Linton who turned
77 on Saturday.
Bert Nelson and Geoff
Snape were new tournament players this year. Bert has only been
playing for about 8 months. Geoff has just recently returned to
the game.
First: Rich (Bubba) Waren and Bert Nelson Second: Evie Hughes
