Bar Presidents Day Tournament Results
If you
wanted excitement and good times, Oscar’s Sports Bar in Bellflower
Ca. was the place to be for President’s Day. We had a great
turnout of 34 players, and some very good matches.
In the ABC blind
draw, there were 10 teams vying for about $3400.00 in total payout.
In the finals, the team of Charlie Gates of Bullhead City Arizona,
Gary Jones of Long Beach and Bernice Boik, AKA: B.B., of Bellflower
came in first going through the winners bracket by defeating the
second place team of Jim Martin from Temecula, Terry Leahy of Phoenix
Arizona, and Mike Huber of Bellflower.
To get to the
finals, Jim Martin’s team defeated the very strong third place
team consisting of Jerry Harp from Garden Grove, H.L. Lee of Bishop
and Jana Brannan of Tustin. Jana is new to the sport and did a great
job in her first tournament.
In the Bring
Partners doubles, we had 8 teams with $2700.00 up for grabs. Making
sure they got their money out of the event, the team of Dave Brennen
from Rossmoor and Tony Appell of Phoenix Arizona, defeated returning
champions Kenny Hawkes of Escondido and Jeff Posthumus of Huntington
Beach by double dipping them. A notable
quote from Jeff, “the beer got in the way of my lag.”
Dave and Tony
made it to the finals by defeating the third place team of Karl
Spickelmier from Bellflower and Grant Manning from Murrieta.
As you can see,
we had a great showing from all over the Southwest. What a wonderful
group of people to be involved with and enjoy time with.
We want to thank
all who participated in our events and continue to support shuffleboard.
This is such a great sport and can continue to grow with all of
our help.
A special thanks
to Rich “Bubba” Warren for again running a very good
tournament. Also thank you to Susie Jones for her help. As always,
thank you Oscar Ugarte for your support of the game and tournaments.
